The building division is an enforcement of the Massachusetts Building Codes, including review of plans and issuance of permits for construction, repair, and alteration of buildings and all applicable inspections. This division is also responsible for the issuance of occupancy certifications under the Massachusetts Building Code and response to violations of this code.

In addition, the building division focuses on the enforcement of the Lynn Zoning Ordinance along with the enforcement of violations to the Massachusetts Building Code. The building division also includes the administrative operations of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Examiners and the Planning board.
